Anna “Lucille” Gardner Hunt, 96, of Minford, OH, went home to be with her heavenly father on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025. “Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her” Proverbs 31:28.
Lucille was born in Wheelersburg, OH, to the late Earnest and Maxine Gardner. Of all the places she traveled throughout her life, Ohio was her favorite place, and she always considered it home.
Lucille was a homemaker and worked in the ministry alongside her husband Howard for many years. They were both proud members of the Church of God of Prophecy to which they devoted their lives. They traveled from state to state serving God in many capacities along the way. They made a great team as she was his helpmate in life. She was whatever he needed at the time. From Sunday School teacher, song leader, band booster, even back up pastor at times and everything in between.
Lucille married the love of her life, Howard, in 1946. After almost 66 years of marriage, in May of 2012, her beloved Howard passed away. She has missed him everyday since. I know on that September afternoon they were reunited once again.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Deborah Elaine Stewart, her granddaughter Malea Nicole and her son in law, Douglas Leighty. She was also preceded in death by her brother Bill and sisters Earnestine and Virginia. Lucille was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Lou Ann Hunt Leighty of Dillsburg, PA. A son in law, Bob Stewart of Pineville, WV. Granddaughters, Kim Cline and her husband Steve of Pineville, WV, with whom she resided and Shay Bond and her husband Aaron of Dillsburg, PA. Grandsons, Devon Leighty and his wife, Erika of Wilmington, DE and Logan Leighty and his wife Ashley of Dillsburg, PA. Great grandchildren, Taylor Vance and her husband Eric of Pineville, WV, Ben Bailey of Pineville, WV, Garrett Bailey and his fiancé Megan of Glen Fork, WV, and Bruin Leighty of Wilmington, DE. Great-great grandchildren, Navie Vance of Pineville, WV and another one on the way. And many other family members who adored her.
Lucille was a joy to so many. She was a strong independent lady right up until her last days. Lucille was a prayer warrior and an ear to whoever needed it. She had a heart of gold and was a true proverbs woman. Many miles traveled and countless lives touched. Her love for God, her husband and family was never ending. She will be missed and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Services for Lucille will be at the New Boston Church of God of Prophecy, 201 Ohio Avenue, New Boston, OH 45662 under the direction of SWICK BENTLEY FUNERAL HOME. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, September 7th from 6:00 to 8:00. The funeral will be on Monday, September 8th at 1:00 PM with Rev Michael Dempsey and Rev Paul Manning officiating. Entombment will follow at the Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, OH.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
