Darrell E. Pauley, 78, a beloved member of his family and community, was born on June 6, 1946, in Charleston, West Virginia. He passed peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the SOMC Hospice Center, surrounded by his devoted family. 

Darrell had a fulfilling career, retiring from GTE in 1997, where he served as a cable splicer and a switchman. His commitment to his profession was matched only by his sense of duty, having served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. This military service not only shaped his character but instilled in him a profound sense of honor and respect for others.

 Darrell found joy in hunting and fishing, activities that allowed him to embrace nature’s beauty. Additionally, he had a passion for reading, which enriched his life with new ideas and perspectives.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly Groves Pauley, whom he married in 1976.  He is the proud father of three children: Darrell "Ikie" Pauley (Dollie),Sonja DeFoe (Michael),and Misty Pauley. Darrell was also a cherished brother to his sisters, Linda Davis (Ralph) and Barb Davis (John). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, who adored him: Austin DeFoe "Jake the Snake," Bryan DeFoe "Runt the Grunt," Abigail DeFoe "Little Devil," Christian DeFoe "Meanie," Kelsea DeFoe "Puppy," Tyler Hobbs "Kick a Poo," Devon Dovenbarger, Ethan Pauley, and Miranda Pauley. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Landin DeFoe, Coltin DeFoe, Oaklee DeFoe, and Avery Hobbs.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Pauley and Ruth Samples, His absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

A visitation for Darrell will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at SWICK BENTLEY FUNERAL HOME in New Boston. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM  with Michael DeFoe Officiating.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Military graveside honors will be presented by Post 23 James Dickey Post of the American Legion.
