Lana Rebecca Mathis Carr, 71, of New Boston welcomed by her heavenly father on Tuesday, May 20 surrounded by her husband, daughters and grandchildren. She was the loving wife of Greg Carr, and best friend to her three daughters Carissa, Tammy and Angie. She shared a special relationship with her oldest grandson Mark Miller.
Lana was born September 24, 1953 in New Boston, Ohio and was the youngest of 18 children. Lana graduated from Glenwood High School in 1971. She then graduated from the school of cosmetology in Portsmouth, Ohio and was a wonderful hair dresser. Lana was very giving of her time and spent many hours fixing hair for family and friends. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Lana and Greg were married May 19, 1971 and just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. In the early years they enjoyed camping and fishing together. They continued to enjoy the outdoors with their children. They both loved watching their girls cheer at ballgames, participate in cheerleading competitions and other school events. Then they did the same with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cheering them on at all of their events.
Lana is survived by her husband, Greg Carr of New Boston; three daughters, Carissa (Rodney) Fetty of Grove City, Tammy (Chris) Lore of Minford and Angela (John) Szul of Hurricane, WV: six grandchildren; Mark (Karri) Miller, Bradley Lore, Hannah (Brady) Norris, Hollie, Daniel and Dillon Fetty: two great-grandchildren: Ryley and Hunter Miller. She is also survived by sisters Carolyn Pelphrey, Loretta (Jim) King, brothers, Roger Mathis, Tom (Bev) Mathis and Elbie (Maxine) Mathis, brother-in-law, Jim (Diane) Carr and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Maude Mathis and her in-laws, Herbert and Hazel Carr. Siblings Bernie Ellis, Paul Raymond, Norma, Lonnie, James, Leeta, Mary Alice, Patricia, Bonnie, Nora, Ed and Michael Dean.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. The family would like to especially thank Hospice of Portsmouth. Our family greatly appreciates their kindness and generosity in the last weeks of Lana’s life.
