Mary Ann Blackburn, 54, was born on May 2, 1971, in Portsmouth to the late Melvin Blackburn and Connie (Stapleton) Glenn. She went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2025, at SOMC Hospice. Throughout her life, Mary exemplified compassion and dedication, particularly as a retired home healthcare aide, where her gentle touch and caring heart made a profound difference in the lives of those she served.
A proud graduate of Glenwood High School in New Boston, Mary was a long-time member of Mabert Road Baptist Church in Portsmouth, where she devoted her time and love to teaching the children's Sunday school class.
Mary is survived by her great aunt, Annette Brown of Newark, her cousin, Linda Walker of Newark, and her beloved dog, Sugar, who brought joy and companionship to her life. Throughout her journey, Mary cherished her special friends: Deloris Benner, Sharon Lee, Patty Spriggs, and Connie Weaver, each of whom played an integral role in her life.
In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her beloved aunts, including Marilyn Ferrell, who raised her with love. Also awaiting her in peace are her cousin, Richard Stapleton, and her cherished dogs, Bradley and Radar. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the funeral home to help cover her services.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor Brian Baer officiating under the direction of SWICK BENTLEY FUNERAL HOME in New Boston.
