Obituary

Richard L. Clark, 75, of Twin Valley, Ohio, passed away suddenly at his home on September 23, 2026. Though his passing was unexpected, his life was a beautiful testimony of faith, family, love, and service to the Lord.

Richard was born on December 13, 1950, in Ironton, Ohio, to Hazel and Elmer Clark. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Michele Lynn; his parents; and his siblings, Thomas Clark, Shirley (Glenn) Carr, Dorothy (Hursel) Chapman, Maurice Clark, and Lesia Allen.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved bride of 55 years, Patricia (Grant) Clark, who shared a lifetime of love and memories by his side. He is also survived by his children, Michael (Nancy) Clark, Melissa (James) Owens, Melanie (Eric) Feeman, and Martin (Kourtney) Clark.

Richard was a proud grandfather who loved his grandchildren dearly. He leaves behind Shay, Aleah, Everlee, Ethan, Allyssa, Robert, Braylon, Caydon, Landon, Ericah, Preston, Kiersten, Nolan, Tanner, Kendon, and Maylee, as well as his precious great-grandchildren, Jude, Lillian, Mia, Wade, and Alaina. His family was one of his greatest joys, and the love he poured into them will continue through generations to come.

He is also survived by his siblings, Patsy (Bob) Jarvis, William (Loretta) Clark, Pam (Michael) Neilson, Ramona Ackison, and Joe Allen, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and brothers and sisters in the Lord.

In 1981, Richard began serving the Lord, beginning a lifelong journey of faith and devotion. He became an ordained elder and faithfully served as a member of Mt. Zion Apostolic Church under the leadership of Reverend George Gravely. Richard’s faith was not simply something he spoke about—it was something he lived.

He loved truth, loved the Word of God, and loved having biblical discussions with anyone he encountered. He never hesitated to share what the Lord had done in his life, and he made it his mission to pass his faith and knowledge of truth down to the generations that followed him. His testimony of faithfulness will remain a treasured part of his family’s heritage.

Richard was blessed with tremendous musical talent and could play many different instruments. One of the places he was happiest was at home with his guitar, singing his favorite song, “He’s Alive.” Perhaps one of his greatest earthly blessings was hearing his grandchildren carry that song forward in recent years, as well as hearing other grandchildren use their voices to sing for the Lord. The sound of those voices will forever be a beautiful reminder of the spiritual heritage he worked so faithfully to leave behind.

Richard was also gifted with remarkable creativity and an ability to build or repair nearly anything someone could imagine. He was a man who could look at something and figure out how to make it work. He proudly used those talents to help his family, having a hand in remodeling every one of his children’s homes. His work was not simply measured in things he built—it was measured in the love, time, and helping hands he freely gave to the people he loved.

Richard retired from Portsmouth City Schools after 30 years of dedicated service.

Above all, Richard will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, talented musician, gifted craftsman, faithful servant of God, and a man who deeply loved his family. He leaves behind more than memories; he leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Though our hearts are broken by his sudden departure, we hold tightly to the promise of God’s Word and the hope of seeing him again.

His earthly work is finished. His testimony remains. His song continues.

And somewhere beyond this life, we can imagine Richard once again lifting his voice and singing the song he loved so much:

“He’s Alive.”

Richard was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the many brothers and sisters in the Lord whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in every song sung, every Bible truth shared, every home he helped build, and every generation that carries his faith forward.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026 at MT. ZION APOSTOLIC CHURCH in West Portsmouth, Ohio. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg.  Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services and from 6:00 until 8:00 Thursday evening at SWICK BENTLEY FUNERAL HOME in New Boston.
